Life After Sport
A CBT-Based Group for College-Aged Women
A CBT-Based Group for College-Aged Women
What happens when the sport that shaped so much of your life is suddenly no longer part of it?
For many former athletes, leaving sport can feel like more than the loss of a team or activity. It can mean losing structure, community, identity, routine, and a clear sense of what you're working toward.
You may find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, unmotivated, disconnected, or unsure of what's next. You may be struggling with body image, food-related thoughts, perfectionism, or the pressure to constantly have another goal.
If this sounds familiar, you're not alone!
—and you don't have to figure out your next chapter by yourself.
You are a college-aged woman who is no longer part of a long-term competitive sport and are experiencing:
This Group Is For You If…
Anxiety, low mood, or feeling overwhelmed
A loss of identity or sense of purpose
Difficulty adjusting to life without your sport
Pressure to constantly achieve or set new goals
Perfectionism or an intense inner critic
Body-image concerns or persistent food-related thoughts
What We’ll Work On
-
Learn practical CBT skills to recognize unhelpful thought patterns, manage emotions, and respond to stress with greater flexibility.
-
Explore the difference between achievement-based goals and personal values, and begin creating a sense of direction that isn't dependent on performance.
-
Identify messages and rules you learned through sport and determine which ones still serve you—and which ones may be creating unnecessary pressure.
-
Explore perfectionism, conditional self-worth, body image, and developing greater flexibility and self-compassion.
-
Identify ways to create meaningful connection and belonging outside of your former team or sport.
-
Discover what you want to carry forward from your athletic identity while making room for the other parts of who you are becoming.
Life After Sport
Your athletic experience gave you valuable strengths—discipline,
perseverance, commitment, teamwork, and resilience.
The goal isn't to leave those qualities behind.
It's to learn how to use them without letting performance define your worth.
This group is an opportunity to move from:
“What do I need to accomplish?”
to
“How do I want to live?”
